Volunteer in Kenya | Kisumu County Volunteer
Join our volunteer program in Kenya, specifically in Kisumu County, and make a difference. Our program offers a wide range of affordable volunteering opportunities, such as teaching English, environmental conservation, and childcare. The shortest program lasts about 4 days, but we recommend at least 14 days or more for a more impactful experience.
Our volunteer projects in Kenya cater to everyone, including nurses, doctors, and medical students, who can volunteer at village health facilities. The Health Volunteer Program in Kenya provides an opportunity to learn and share your knowledge with the village of Kabonyo in Kisumu County, near Lake Victoria. This program is open to volunteers aged 18 and above.
Volunteers in Kenya can join OKOWA CBO by participating in the Teaching English Volunteer Program. Volunteers assist with teaching various subjects in Kenyan elementary and high schools. They also work in community schools and orphanages, teaching English, planting trees, and teaching subjects like mathematics, science, geography, social sciences, history, physical education, art, and music.
Please note that Kenyan school holidays occur in April, August, and late November to December. No school teaching will be available during these periods. During the holidays, volunteers will be placed in orphanages and youth programs. In this program, volunteers either teach classes on their own or assist the current staff and teachers.
Volunteering in the teaching program offers invaluable work experience, allowing volunteers to gain overseas teaching experience. Most of our volunteers work in day secondary schools and primary school placements in village areas near Kisumu Cit.

About us
The Okowa Vulnerable Community Based Organization seeks to address the challenges faced by Kanyagwal Village, a home to approximately four thousand five hundred Luo tribe inhabitants. The village endures both perennial floods and extreme dry seasons, disrupting livelihoods, causing displacement, and impacting health and education. These conditions lead to high poverty levels, health issues, and limited access to education. The organization aims to establish a solid baseline for progress by providing clean water, implementing a feeding program for schools, and sourcing essential hospital equipment.
Community Empowerment
Community empowerment is actively taking place across various domains. In women's empowerment, education and awareness initiatives are enabling women to assert their rights. Simultaneously, child welfare efforts ensure safe environments and quality education.
Community development focuses on infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth. During emergencies, communities provide swift relief, shelter, and support. These combined endeavors promote holistic well-being and sustainable progress.
