Welcome to the Okowa Vulnerable Community Based Organization, a beacon of positive change nestled within the heart of Kanyagwal Village. Our mission is to uplift and empower our community, addressing a wide spectrum of challenges faced by its residents.

Through a diverse range of initiatives, from education and women’s empowerment to disaster relief and sustainable agriculture, we are committed to creating lasting impact and fostering a brighter future for every individual in our village.. The Okowa Vulnerable Community Based Organization operates with a steadfast dedication within Kabonyo Kanyagwal Village, nestled in the Kisumu County of Kenya. With a population of approximately 4,500 individuals predominantly from the Luo tribe, this community faces an array of challenges rooted in poverty, erratic weather patterns, and recurrent floods. The village’s day-to-day activities, heavily reliant on cattle herding, rice farming, traditional crafts, and fishing, are persistently disrupted by the cyclical onslaught of floods and the harsh realities of drought. These adversities intertwine to create a cycle of hardship, hampering education, health, and economic stability.

Undeterred by these formidable challenges, the Okowa Vulnerable Community Based Organization stands resolute in its mission to empower the community. They act swiftly during emergencies, providing essential relief such as food and water. Yet, their efforts extend beyond immediate crisis response, encompassing a broader goal of fostering enduring recovery and resilience. In response to the impact of extreme weather fluctuations, they aim to establish clean water sources, initiate school feeding programs, and equip the local hospital with vital medical resources. By taking these comprehensive steps, the organization endeavors to break the cycle of adversity and uplift the quality of life for the residents of Kabonyo Kanyagwal Village, forging a path towards a more promising future.
